What Is a Child
Arrangements Order?
Child arrangements order is an order regulating with whom the child shall live and how much time the child shall have with the non resident parent.
Length, location, times, dates and supervision of contact may be defined by the court in some detail. If for some reason direct contact is not found to be in the child's best interest then a child arrangements order can provide that the child have other forms of contact such as letters, birthday cards or telephone contact. The court has the power to go further and order that there be no contact at all where it is clear the child is distressed even by indirect contact.

What Can The Court's Do?
In the absence of agreement between the parties, a Court can make any of the following orders:
- Child Arrangements Order
- Prohibited Steps Order
- Specific Issues Order
- Special Guardianship Order
The general approach is that contact is the right of the child. The Court seeks to maintain contact between the child and his/her natural parents unless there is a risk of harm to the child, because of domestic violence for example.

Specific Issues Order
A specific issues order is an order giving directions for the purposes of determining a specific question which has arisen, or which may arise in the connection with any aspect of PR for a child.
It is to be used where ther is some dispute about the exercise of PR involving a positive step in the child's life. For example, where the child should go to school or whether the child should receive a particular form of medical treatment.
